None of you believes until…

.

Allaah سبحانه وتعالى‎ Said in His Noble Book:

Indeed Allaah conferred a great favour on the believers when He sent among them a Messenger from among themselves, reciting unto them His Ayaat (the Qur’an), and purifying them, and instructing them (in) the Book (the Qur’an) and Al-Hikmah (wisdom and the Sunnah of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم) [Aal Imran: 164]

.

“He who obeys the Messenger (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم), has indeed obeyed Allah…” [An-Nisaa’: 80]

.

“…And whatsoever the Messenger (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) gives you, take it; and whatsoever he forbids you, abstain (from it)…” [Al-Hashr: 7]
.

1. The Messenger of Allaah صلى الله عليه وسلم said:

“None of you believes until his desires are in accordance with what I have brought.” [Ibn Abi Aasim ‘As-Sunnah’, 15; Al-Baghawi, ‘Sharh as-Sunnah’, 1/212; Khateeb al-Baghdadi ‘Tareekh’ 4/469; Bayhaqi, ‘Al-Madkhal’ 209; Ibn Battah, ‘Al-Ibanah’, 291; Ad-Daylami, Tabarani and others – mashhoor hadeeth, classed as hasan]

2. Imam an-Nawawi said in his Arab’een that this means a person must examine his acts in light of the Qur’an and Sunnah, suspending his own inclinations and following what the Prophet This hadeeth is hasan saheeh and resembles (the meaning of) the Words of Allaah Most High:

“It is not for a believing man or a believing woman, when Allah and His Messenger have decreed a matter that they should have any option (in their decision except to follow)…” [Al-Ahzab:36]

.

3. Ibn Uthman al-Maqdisi (Abu Shaamah) said: “The order to stick to the Jamaa’ah means sticking to the truth and its followers; even if those who stick to the truth are few and those who oppose it are many; since the truth is that which the first Jamaa’ah from the time of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم and his Companions were upon. No attention is given to the great number of the people of falsehood coming after them.” [Al-Ba’ith ‘ala Inkar al-Bid’i wal-Hawadith, p. 19]

4. As one’s Imaan increases and one’s love for Allaah and His Messenger increases, the Shar’iah (in all its aspect) becomes unburdening and provides complete relief. One finds happiness and contentment in living by it; and is thankful to Allaah for revealing the complete guidance and a blueprint for a successful life; whereas before mankind was in darkness.

5. Short sharh of the original hadeeth can be found here

May Allaah make us amongst those who are satisfied with the Sunnah of the Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم and do not contend his speech with the speech of others from the creation.
